Follow your passion, quit the job you hate: The missing link in self help or personal development literature

Definitely the best option is to follow your passion, so quit your job that you hate. However the majority of the people get stuck in what circumstances force them to do. Well, they may be more pumped with self help motivation, but even then many could not get the courage to follow the path of passion. So what these people should do? Almost no personal development literature shed light on it. So here goes my take after going through the similar situation in my life.

Well, sometimes you don’t know whether you like it or not until you directly get involved. So if you find that it’s not your passion, then the best suggestion is to quit immediately you realize it.
But due to circumstances many people could not do it. So in such case my suggestion is that within 6 months if you realize that it’s not your passion, take next 6 months to quit from it. However, sometimes the full cycle of any work is completed in a year. So you may take a year and then you feel its not your thing, quit gradually in the next 6 months to 1 year, the earlier you quit the better.
But after 2 years if you could not quit due to different obligations or mental blocks, forget about quitting. Now put your best effort within your comfort zone to excel in that job, not over 20 percent side work for your passion in free time. And this way you may keep on average as you don’t  like that work after much effort most people will come into average on that. This way you will be inline with that job. Better if you could go beyond comfort zone to excel in that job, then you may enter to the top performer of that job. However, it might happen that even with your best effort, you lag behind the average. Well then management may release you or may put in better in line positin for you as you have shown your best effort. But don’t put up with any plan for quitting, if you could quit instantly if you feel so then do it. But no thinking and planning for quitting.

On the other note, there may be a few people who may take the current role as a stepping stone and meticulously move toward their passion. But for the majority of the people it does not work. So be careful about it. If you feel that it’s not your thing, then you do not put your comfort zone level best effort and daydreaming about quitting but could not actually quit[in the previous 2 years , you could not take the courage to quit, so don’t fool yourself. ]. This way you do lower than average performance in your current job, feel depressed but could not quit. While the management may not discard in humanitarian ground as you have been here for a while and just make the minimalist requirement of the job. Actually I did this wrong in my higher study and job career by daydreaming quitting but never quit while just putting bare minimum to keep going on those higher study and job, and now have been suffering. In my undergrad life, I put my level best within my comfort zone and just managed to get a middle ranking result. But I don’t have regret for that as I put my level best within comfort zone. However I feel that if I could put more than comfort zone, then I might be able to do better.

This stuck guideline is applicable to any age, however in the earlier age if one could take the decision quickly that would be most beneficial and coaching should be provided in this regard to the young people.
