English lessons over phone Great idea
http://www.genlish.com/learn-english/tutorials/is-english-learning-on-phone-possible/

@my idea: using facebook, then taking question through viber or whats app or skype.

When you learn on phone, your class comes to you. Just sit at home and select the time slot convenient to you. The trainer will call you for the session, each day!

Speaking practice is the most crucial to learn a language. Institutes do not provide you with enough practice; their time is divided among the 30 students who have come to learn. Every student gets 2-3 minutes to speak. Learning on phone ensures that you speak for the entire 25 minutes!

Institutes demand high fee, add to it the cost you incur on commutes. Learning on phone has no such hassles. You do not have to go anywhere- just receive calls from your trainer and begin your session.

Genlish is one such platform where you can learn English on phone. It offers flexibility like no other method of learning. Try it to believe it!

Movie techniques
I like it. Just to add that initially without looking into dictionary the learner may try figure out the meaning from visual key.

@@@Previously cinema and tv dramas use the standard language, but now they follow standard close to conversational. So it is a good idea. Besides you may search the movie with real language.

When you learn English with movies or TV, you are learning the real English used by native speakers. In movies, you’ll hear natural pronunciation, everyday vocabulary, spoken grammar, common idioms, and slang. Even better, you will learn these from interesting and emotional stories. Movies (and TV) are a powerful way to improve your English, enjoyable.

In this show, AJ explains the movie technique step by step. Use this technique with all of your favorite movies and TV shows. Be sure to follow the technique exactly as AJ describes. This is the way to deeply learn English by mastering everything you study.

Yes, you will work slowly through a movie. Your first movie might require several months to master. However, as you continue you will learn faster and faster. Keep going and enjoy learning English with movies!

For example, for beginners in English, I usually recommend you learn English through animations.  The main reason is because the English is usually very friendly, nice and easy to understand.
VLC player. This is actually a video player I recommend for watching films on your computer. This is one of my favourite tools. Most people use it just to watch movies, but I use it a little differently.  (And if you don’t have it, you can download VLC player, it’s free.)

Here’s what I do – if you download a movie online, and you play it, you know how you don’t understand English sometimes? VLC Player allows you to play back movies at half speed or quarter speed. So if there are parts you don’t understand, you can play these back at a slower speed and try again! It’s very helpful to practice your listening.

Knowing failure is more of a teacher than of success

To go back suggests we’ve failed, that our judgement was flawed, that our time was wasted. And the painful thing is – that’s usually true. But it doesn’t matter. The maze just is. You can back up and get on with it, or you can stay stuck in the wrong place.
http://oliveremberton.com/2014/life-is-a-maze-not-a-marathon/

There are only two ways to advance your life: move forward when you can, or step backwards and try something else when you can’t. The greatest mistake to make is standing still.

We feel surprisingly bad if we fail a job interview, mess up a date, or even pick the slower route to work. A cool head might say all these things were ‘good learning experiences’, but that doesn’t mean they don’t feel like crap.

The problem with our instinctive sense of tragedy is that it teaches us to avoid anything where a potential gain might be lost. The bigger the potential gain, the greater our aversion:
http://oliveremberton.com/2013/you-will-still-be-here-tomorrow-but-your-dreams-may-not/

The problem with looking at the successful for inspiration is what they do now isn’t what got them there. You’re liable to copy the wrong things.

windows should be closed or kept open on humid sunny days of summer and keep your home cool without AC

From what I’ve been able to gather from the experts, the answer to this question is actually pretty simple: When the air outside is cooler than the air inside — like at dawn, dusk and overnight — keep the windows open to cool your house off. And when the air outside is warmer than the air inside — like at midday — keep them shut.
http://vancouversun.com/news/staff-blogs/hot-day-windows-open-closed

To my surprise, I found that many times when the outside air felt cooler than the air inside, the reverse was actually the case — sometimes significantly so. Indeed, at many times when I’d normally have opened the windows to let in the breeze, I discovered the outside air was actually three or four degrees (Celsius) hotter than it was inside.

Based on that new information, I’ve found myself keeping the windows shut for much longer during the day than I did in the past — closing the windows much earlier in the morning and opening them much later in the afternoon. And it’s made a real difference. At the end of the day on hot days now, I find the inside our house much more comfortable and at least a couple degrees cooler on the thermostat.

http://www.timescolonist.com/opinion/to-stay-cool-leave-house-windows-closed-or-open-1.2179996
So what accounts for this discrepancy between how the air feels and its actual temperature? My guess: Wind. As everyone knows, even a small breeze can make the air feel notably cooler. And, especially in Vancouver, there’s often a nice breeze coming in off the ocean.

After two summers of experimenting, I am a firm believer in closing windows and blinds to keep the house cool when it is hot outside. But many people will resist. They can’t tolerate closed windows and blinds when it’s a beautiful sunny day. - See more at: http://www.timescolonist.com/opinion/to-stay-cool-leave-house-windows-closed-or-open-1.2179996#sthash.oWhODQaB.dpuf

Leaving windows open to reduce humidity is not always good advice but it is an interesting topic.
https://www.quora.com/If-you-have-high-humidity-in-your-home-people-advise-to-open-the-window-to-keep-it-ventilated-How-does-this-help-when-the-humidity-outside-is-higher-than-the-humidity-inside-my-house

We are not actually discussing total moisture content of the air in grains. We are discussing relative humidity. This means the percentage of humidity in comparison to the maximum amount of moisture the air can hold.

Warmer air can hold more moisture than cool air, therefore the colder the air the higher the relative humidity will be of the grains of moisture remain constant.

Think of it in the same way as how tea can hold more sugar when warm than when cool.

In many cases the relative humidity may be high inside because of internal moisture gains (showers, cooking, house plants) combined with an overly cool indoor environment.

people will often think the humidity outside is much higher than it actually is. The truth is that you will generally see consistently highest outdoor relative humidity during cooler, Rainier times.

The best things you can do to reduce indoor humidity are -

Reduce internal moisture loads by utilizing good bath and kitchen ventilation during showing and range use.

Keep doors and windows closed during the early morning and any time it is rainy

Open doors and windows when it is dry outside (no rain, no dew in the morning)

Use supplementary dehumidification

Ensure that your air ducts are well sealed. Leaky ducts can cause act to create low and high pressure zones in the home and atomic / crawl space which may act as a moisture driver.

Make sure your a/c is working properly and set up as best it can be to provide optimum dehumidification (but that is a different and even longer answer)

http://freshome.com/2007/06/25/tricks-keep-your-house-cool-this-summer/
You should remember that even mild air movement of 1 mph can make you feel three or four degrees cooler.
Shades, drapes, or blinds

Install white window shades, drapes, or blinds to reflect heat away from the house. Close blinds, shades and draperies facing the sun (east-facing windows in the morning and west-facing windows in the afternoon) to keep the sun’s heat out and help fans or air conditioners cool more efficiently. Always remember that the best way to keep your home cool is to keep the heat out.

Deciduous trees planted on the south and west sides will keep your house cool in the summer and allow the sunlight to warm the house during the winter. For example just three trees, properly placed around a house, can save between $100 and $250 annually in cooling and heating costs, and daytime air temperatures can be 3 degrees to 6 degrees cooler in tree-shaded neighborhoods.

Humidity makes room air feel warmer, so reduce indoor humidity. Minimize mid-day washing and drying clothes, showering, and cooking. And when you must do these things, turn on ventilating fans to help extract warm, moist air.
Avoid landscaping with lots of unshaded rock, cement, or asphalt on the south or west sides because it increases the temperature around the house and radiates heat to the house after the sun has set.

Cotton absorbs sweat but nylon things do not. Thats why cotton is suggested in humid weather.

Sri lanka tuition fee Public University

http://studentlanka.com/2010/07/07/cost-of-university-degree-courses-in-sri-lanka/

Undergraduate education in state universities is free but extremely competitive, limited and standardized. Fewer than 16% (less than 16,000 students) of those who qualify get admission to state universities[13] and of that only half graduate.[14] Admission to the university system is based on the highly competitive GCE Advanced Level examination. Selection of students is done on the basis of rank order on average Z Scores obtained by candidates at the GCE Advanced Level under a transparent national policy to replicate a district basis representation. Only the top students from each district get admissions.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_in_Sri_Lanka

There are only 15 state universities in Sri Lanka. The prominent ones are University of Colombo, University of Peradeniya, University of Ruhuna, University of Kelaniya, University of Sri Jayawardhenapura and University of Moratuwa. In recent years, with changes to the University Act, a few institutes have been given permission to grant their own degrees: The most prominent is the government-owned Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology.[17]

The panel also approved that the students belonging to families whose annual income is less than Rs. 1 lakh will be able to get full fee waiver, along with those belonging to the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes and the differently abled.

The benefit will not only be limited to these categories. The students belonging to families with an annual income less than Rs. five lakh will be entitled to a waiver of two-thirds of the tuition fee, irrespective of their category. The rest of the students who do not fall under any of these categories will be helped with loans to fund their education, the officials said.

zero-hour contract and Gig economy

A zero-hour contract
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero-hour_contract
is a type of contract between an employer and a worker, where the employer is not obliged to provide any minimum working hours, while the worker is not obliged to accept any work offered.[1] The employee may sign an agreement to be available for work as and when required, so that no particular number of hours or times of work are specified.[2] Depending on jurisdiction and conditions of employment, a zero-hour contract may differ from casual work. They are often used in agriculture, hotels and catering, education, and healthcare sectors. They are used to enable on call scheduling. This term is used to refer to on-call shift scheduling practices, even though it is just a contract which enables it.

A bill outlawing zero hour contracts was unanimously passed on 10 March 2016 and went into effect on 1 Apri2016 in New Zealand

https://www.gov.uk/contract-types-and-employer-responsibilities/zero-hour-contracts

Some zero-hours contracts require workers to take the shifts they are offered, while others do not.
Sick pay is often not included, although holiday pay should be, in line with working time regulations.
http://www.bbc.com/news/business-23573442

He points out that this flexibility is envied by employers in struggling economies such as Spain and Greece, where potential costs may dissuade employers from taking on staff.

Gig economy
++
In the gig economy, instead of a regular wage, workers get paid for the "gigs" they do, such as a food delivery or a car journey.
In the UK it's estimated that five million people are employed in this type of capacity.
Jobs include couriers, ride-hailing drivers and video producers.

At spare moments in the day, make it a point to contemplate the loss of whatever you value in life. It can make you realize, if only for a time, how lucky you are — how much you have to be thankful for, almost regardless of your circumstances…

When angry, says Seneca, we should take steps to “turn all [anger’s] indications into their opposites.” We should force ourselves to relax our face, soften our voice, and slow our pace of walking. If we do this, our internal state will soon come to resemble our external state, and our anger, says Seneca, will have dissipated.

Denying yourself something makes you appreciate the things you take for granted.
Harvard professor and author of Happy Money, Michael Norton says a bit of self-denial is a huge happiness booster:

…if you love, every day, having the same coffee, don’t have it for a few days. Once you have it again, it’s going to be way more amazing than all of the ones that you would have had in the meantime… It’s not “give it up forever.” It’s “give it up for short periods of time, and I promise you you’re going to love it even more when you come back to it.”

Marcus Aurelius shares:

It never ceases to amaze me: we all love ourselves more than other people, but care more about their opinion than our own.

When you feel resistance, use that as a cue to go forward.

So you were born to feel ‘nice’? Instead of doings things and experiencing them? Don’t you see the plants, the birds, the ants and spiders and bees going about their individual tasks, putting the world in order, as best they can? And you’re not willing to do your job as a human being? Why aren’t you running to do what your nature demands?

Nice quotes

https://www.pickthebrain.com/blog/3-stoic-principles-help-live-joyful-life/

The solution, the Stoics realized, is to learn to want the things you already have, rather than wanting other things. The most interesting technique that will help you achieve this is Negative Visualization.

For example, suppose that you currently have a good working set of eyes. Imagine carefully what it would be like to live your life as a blind person. You would have to work very hard to rearrange your life to remain functional — learn braille, take special precautions when walking around town and when cooking eggs at home, etc. — but in the end, you could surely survive and even become happy again if you were blind. But now open your eyes. SURPRISE!! YOU HAVE THIS BONUS OF SIGHT!!!. Wow, you were already doing just fine in your blind life, but now you have working eyes too? What an incredible life – you are truly blessed with more than you even nee

The next great trick is the one that allows you to eliminate anxiety about the present and the future. That can be done by separating your worries into things you can control, and things you can’t.
http://www.mrmoneymustache.com/2011/10/02/what-is-stoicism-and-how-can-it-turn-your-life-to-solid-gold/

Moving from the mental to the physical, Stoics actually enjoy experimenting with Voluntary Discomfort. As a contemporary Stoic, you might make a point of seeing how long you can leave the air conditioning off on a summer day, or try hiking in bare feet instead of shoes occasionally to feel the land and force your feet to adapt to tougher conditions than a moisture-wicking merino wool hiking sock.  It sounds absurd by modern standards, until you realize that by doing this, you are actually broadening your comfort zone, even while you eliminate your fear of discomfort. Thanks to the practice above, you are now able to enjoy yourself in a much broader range of temperatures, and appreciate the comfort of shoes when you do have them. Meanwhile, a person with the extreme opposite philosophy might become irritated if he ever has to travel in less than a first-class airplane seat or stay in less than a five star hotel or drink sub-$500-per-bottle wine. By experimenting with voluntary discomfort, we  learn to appreciate far more of our life, and can be content with a much simpler and more wholesome one.

Last in my own miniature summary of Stoicism, I’d like to point out the difference between Pleasure and Happiness. An alternative philosophy called Hedonism suggests that to have the best life, you simply maximize pleasure. But Stoics reject that, since pleasure is just one dimension of true happiness. Eating cupcakes is pleasurable, as is sex, sleeping in, drinking wine, and watching TV. Higher level pleasures might be had by driving a fancy car for the first few times, receiving compliments from important people or having millions of people ask for your autograph. But each pleasure very rapidly wears out if overused, and the Hedonist is left scrambling desperately higher up the pyramid of earthly pleasures until he runs out of money or health. Meanwhile, by focusing on Happiness – the underlying signal delivered by Pleasure, the Stoic can make it a much more consistent and tranquil companion in his life. In our society as well as those thousands of years ago, the Stoics is truly the one who has Got It Goin’ On.

And these days, he ends up becoming much richer as an almost-trivial side benefit.

n important issue in the Muslim world is how women should dress in public. A recent survey from the University of Michigan’s Institute for Social Research conducted in seven Muslim-majority countries (Tunisia, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey), finds that most people prefer that a woman completely cover her hair, but not necessarily her face. Only in Turkey and Lebanon do more than one-in-four think it is appropriate for a woman to not cover her head at all in public.

There are two ways to create blue oceans. One is to launch completely new industries, as eBay did with online auctions. But it’s much more common for a blue ocean to be created from within a red ocean when a company expands the boundaries of an existing industry.

Getting around in Kolkata, West Bengal, India with its Local Transport

kolkata snob good starting point
http://www.kolkata.org.uk/local-transport.html

Buses
There is a complete chaos in buses and therefore the ride is not very relaxing. A better alternative is the slow moving trundling tram that circles the city. It covers the stops at Park Circus, Sealdah Railway Station and Howrah. They charge nominal fares starting from Rs 3. They provide services from 4 am till 11 pm.

Metros
Metro system was initialized in Calcutta in 1984. It has helped a great deal in sharing some congestion on the streets. There is one track that covers the entire city from Dum Dum train station (north) to Tollygunge (south). On the metro station, TV screens keep the commuters busy.

Taxis
Taxis provide a 24 hour service and the best thing about Taxi drivers in Kolkata is that, they are very honest and always put on the meter.

Ferries
Ferries cover short distances across the river Hooghly and they run every few minutes.

Rickshaws and Auto-rickshaws
Rickshaws and auto rickshaws can be more commonly spotted around the market areas.

Bus & Tram

Buses in Kolkata come in different forms. The best are a limited fleet of shiny new air-con buses, but the standard tumbles quickly down to crowded blue-and-yellow rattletraps and red-and-yellow minibuses, mostly manned by manic drivers and motormouth conductors. A large selection of minbuses start from the Minibus Station on the eastern side of BBD Bagh, including a service to Airport Gate 1 via Dum Dum.

Dinky but photogenic trams follow more predictable routes along select city tracks, and are immune to one-way traffic.

Autos

Tuk-tuk-style autorickshaws ('autos') operate as fixed-route hop-on share taxis with three passengers in the back and one beside the driver. Fares are typically ?6 to ?10, depending on distance.

UV Express

Manila has numerous white air-con Toyota UV Express vans that follow similar routes to the jeepneys, picking up and setting down passengers en route. The fare is P30 for long rides and P20 for shorter hops.

UV express is the microbus
http://www.topgear.com.ph/features/feature-articles/10-things-only-a-uv-express-commuter-can-relate-to-a1114-20160519

http://emongsjournals.blogspot.com/2017/02/your-complete-commuters-guide-to-uv-express-fx-vans-terminals-in-metro-manila.html
They're called the commuter vans, or what are now popularly known as the Utility Vehicle (UV) Express and FX vans.

LTFRB (Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board) serving as regulator of the UV Express franchise, the commuter vans has increased its service routes exponentially all around the country, including Metro Manila.

In Metro Manila alone, the UV vans number to at least 6,000 units with passenger terminals scattered all throughout in Manila, Makati (Ayala Center), Pasig (SM Megamall), Mandaluyong (Starmall), Cubao, North Avenue, Centris Station, and in similarly busy locations.

FX is like probox
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UV_Express
In 1993, Toyota Motor Company in the Philippines introduced the third generation Tamaraw FX. This vehicle was designed and marketed as a smaller type of utility vehicle (as compared to the larger utility vehicles in countries like the United States). The Tamaraw FX could basically seat a driver and one passenger in front, three passengers in the second row, with a relatively large space left for luggage. This luggage space, however, has traditionally been used by operators to provide additional seating space, producing a rather limited legroom. This vehicle, as well as comparable offerings from other automobile manufacturers such as Mitsubishi with its Adventure and Isuzu Motors with its Hi-Lander (later Crosswind), would eventually be used as a form of public transport, colloquially referred to as the "FX".

Overtime, the FX has been replaced by larger vehicles such as the Nissan Urvan and Toyota HiAce. With these new vehicles, the luggage space has been fully removed to add seating space, with the same limited legroom as the first ones, which has been a cause for complaints of overloading.

Each passenger can bring along one friend, for a maximum total of four riders.

UberPOOL drivers are regular UberX drivers. If UberPOOL is available in your area, you are automatically made available to do POOL rides when you’re driving for UberX. UberPOOL drivers will only wait two minutes to pick you up, so make sure that you’re ready to go when you request your ride.

t’s difficult to exactly describe POOL pricing because Uber uses an algorithm to change the price of the ride depending on whether they think you’ll be matched with a partner or not. Either way, Uber’s new up front pricing makes it easy to see exactly how much the ride will cost you.

If you request an UberPOOL and you aren’t matched with another rider, you’ll still pay the lower UberPOOL rate and ride alone.

All in all, it’s an option worth checking out because there’s no way that you’ll pay more than an UberX.

Difference among horsepower, BHP,ps and conversion calculator

Power is a way of expressing how much ‘work’ a car’s engine can do, or how far and how fast it can ultimately force itself. The force the car uses is called torque,

A horsepower is a totally arbitrary measurement – dreamt up by James Watt when trying to compare the effectiveness of his steam engines against the horses they were replacing. One horsepower was deemed to be the equivalent of one horse lifting 33,000 pounds over one foot in one minute on the surface of the Earth. - See more at: https://www.carwow.co.uk/guides/glossary/what-is-horsepower#sthash.FwcTtyzT.dpuf

PS (pferdestärke), CV (chevaux vapeur) or DIN metric horsepower are exactly that – an attempt to make horsepower metric. A metric horsepower is the equivalent of 0.986 horsepower – this is why the Volkswagen Golf R is advertised with 300PS but only has 296hp. Equally, 300PS sounds better than 296hp simply because it’s a bigger number - See more at: https://www.carwow.co.uk/guides/glossary/what-is-horsepower#sthash.FwcTtyzT.dpuf

One horsepower equals 745.7 watts (0.7457 kW), though very few countries use this measurement – only really being popular in Australia and South Africa. - See more at: https://www.carwow.co.uk/guides/glossary/what-is-horsepower#sthash.FwcTtyzT.dpuf

Power is indicative of how fast a car ultimately is and how far the force of the engine can push it, so it stands to reason that more horsepower typically means a higher top speed. The force of an engine is what you feel when you accelerate and is known as torque. Torque often tells you more about how an engine feels to drive rather than how far it can push – hence why torquey diesels tend to feel so strong on the road even with modest power outputs - See more at: https://www.carwow.co.uk/guides/glossary/what-is-horsepower#sthash.FwcTtyzT.dpuf

The more torque an engine has, the more pull (or acceleration) it offers at lower revs.

Power is simple – the more you have of it, the faster you’ll go. - See more at: https://www.carwow.co.uk/blog/what-is-torque#sthash.xUlD2LP9.dpuf

if horsepower tells you how fast the car can ultimately go, then torque tells you how hard it can push you there. Torque matters as much, if not more so, than horsepower because it’s the force you feel when you accelerate. If you regularly tow a trailer or tourer, or frequently carry a fully-loaded car, then having plenty of torque is important because it helps you pull your load onwards. - See more at: https://www.carwow.co.uk/blog/what-is-torque#sthash.xUlD2LP9.dpuf

The best analogy to describe torque is to compare it to turning a nut with a spanner. Say your spanner is a meter long and you apply one newton of force to the end of it – you’re turning the nut with one newton-meter of force. Double the length of the wrench or the weight applied to its end and you double the torque being applied to the nut. In the UK, torque is typically measured in imperial foot-pounds rather than metric standard newton-meters – one Nm is equivalent to 0.738lb ft. - See more at: https://www.carwow.co.uk/blog/what-is-torque#sthash.xUlD2LP9.dpuf

The scheme will provide health cover up-to Rs 1 lakh per family. For senior citizens of the age 60 years and above belonging to this category, an additional top-up package up to Rs 30,000 will be provided.

To address this situation, FM has proposed to start a ‘National Dialysis Services Programme’. The Finance Minister has also proposed to exempt certain parts of dialysis equipment from basic customs duty, excise/CVD and SAD to further reduce the cost.

In order to make quality medicines available at affordable prices and reinvigorate the supply of generic drugs, the government plans to open 3,000 stores under Prime Minister’s Jan Aushadhi Yojana during 2016-17.
