Hotelling's law : same type of shops cluster together why?

http://weakonomics.com/2009/11/13/why-do-competing-stores-open-up-next-to-each-other/

http://www.planetizen.com/node/65765

f a retailer opens a new location away from the current clustering, there are two potential results:

1. It will fail to capture enough consumers and eventually close.

2. It will become successful causing competitive stores to locate nearby.

Either way, clustering remains the norm.

https://theamericangenius.com/business-news/three-theories-prove-why-competitors-open-stores-next-to-each-other/

Hotelling's law is an observation in economics that in many markets it is rational for producers to make their products as similar as possible. This is also referred to as the principle of minimum differentiation as well as Hotelling's linear city model. The observation was made by Harold Hotelling (1895–1973) in the article "Stability in Competition" in Economic Journal in 1929.[1]

examples of doing great things after 40

it was between the ages of 48 and 49 that Sanders finalized his now-famous “Original Recipe” for KFC with 11 herbs and spices. At the age of 65 in 1955, Sanders traveled the U.S., visiting from restaurant to restaurant, knocking from door to door, and cooking batches of chicken for the restaurant owners to convince them to franchise his chicken.

Embrace these beliefs instead:
“It’s never too late to pursue anything. What’s more important is that I take action now.”
“Age is just a number. My current age is just a reflection of the number of years I’ve been alive, but not a reflection of my unlimited power as a being.”

Suzanne Collins, who was 46 when she published The Hunger Games, which would receive critically acclaim and subsequently pave the way for a trilogy as well as now-famous film adaptation starring Jennifer Lawrence.

success loves speed

create prod
http://www.success.com/blog/do-things-faster-and-6-other-ways-to-double-your-productivity-income-and-sex-appeal
If your job is to mop floors, your job isn't to mop the floors. Your job is to find a creative way to get the floors mopped by someone else so you can implement some new thing you came up with to make—or save—your employer more money.

Read the book Titan. John D. Rockefeller had thousands of employees. Everyone's job—their number one priority—was to find someone else to do their job for them. Brilliant.

But creating is painful. It requires thinking, which of course no one wants to do. It also requires placing yourself in a mental position of uncertainty. And this we fear more than death itself. This is why everyone prefers to pretend to work with phones and emails than actually do productive work.

Dedicate as small a chunk of your day as possible to returning calls and emails, and put it in on the map. Resist the urge to deviate from the map.

speed as a habit
http://firstround.com/review/speed-as-a-habit/
Eric made sure that decisions were made on a specific timeframe — a realistic one — but a firm one. He made this a habit for himself and it made a world of difference for Google.

We’re deeply driven by the belief that fast decisions are far better than slow ones and radically better than no decisions.

It's important to internalize how irreversible, fatal or non-fatal a decision may be. Very few can't be undone.

peed doesn’t require one leader to make all the calls top-down. The art of good decision making requires that you gather input and perspective from your team, and then push toward a final decision in a way that makes it clear that all voices were heard.

We intuitively want the team to come to the right decision on their own. But I’ve found that people are enormously relieved when they hear that you’re grabbing the baton and accepting responsibility for a decision. Using the “CEO prerogative” — to make the final call

Too many people believe that speed is the enemy of quality. To an extent they’re right — you can’t force innovation and sometimes genius needs time and freedom to bloom. But in my experience, that’s the rare case. There’s not always a stark tradeoff between something done fast and done well.

http://jsomers.net/blog/speed-matters

It is a truism, too, in workplaces, that faster employees get assigned more work. Of course they do. Humans are lazy. They want to preserve calories. And it’s exhausting merely thinking about giving work to someone slow.

Passive income ideas

Passive income great article
http://www.thesmarterdollar.com/passive-income/

To handle the sales process, delivery, and payment, you can either sign up with a service like Gumroad, or implement it all on your own website. The Gumroad route is probably much easier, and they also handle all the EU VAT for you, which is a major headache for publishers from all countries selling eBooks in the EU.
http://passively.io/12-passive-income-ideas/

You can either self-host your course on your own website, which means you have to setup your own course delivery and payment system, or you could host it on a site like Udemy. Udemy is the world’s biggest online learning marketplace, with over 10 million students taking courses in everything from programming to yoga to photography.

The advantage of using a platform like Udemy, is not just that all the technical issues are taken care of for you, but also that it’s a marketplace where people go to look for courses like yours. You will get customers that you wouldn’t otherwise have got, simply by being on Udemy. And if your course is good, and does well, then Udemy will promote it for you.

Dropshipping store

type: time investment
doability: 2/10
resource: See above Ecommerce links, plus read this guide.

Dropshipping is a form of Ecommerce, where you sell products that you don’t even keep in stock. In fact, you never even have to touch the products. Or make them. Or pack the boxes. Or ship to the customer. Or handle returns.

Here’s how it works:

You decide what you want to sell (let’s do green tea)
You find a supplier that will dropship green tea from their warehouse, etc
You find buyers (usually through your online store).
A customer places an order for your tea.
Your supplier receives the order and processes it.
    You get paid.

P2P Real estate

type: monetary investment
doability: 8/10
resource: RealtyShares and GroundFloor

If you didn’t read the “Peer to Peer lending” strategy above…this is basically just crowd sourced real estate investing.

To learn more about RealtyShares, go look around on their website.

Groundfloor works like this:

You open an account for free
You transfer money to your GroundFloor account
You pick a real estate project to invest in
You get your money back in 3-12 months, depending on the project.

According to the 50/20/30 rule, your monthly budget should be divided into three distinct categories of expenses: 50% should be reserved for essentials (think housing and food), 30% should be allocated for lifestyle choices (things like nights out and 121 channels of cable), and at least 20% should go toward what we call “financial priorities,” which include debt payments, retirement contributions and, of course, savings.

Denmark’s egalitarianism or equality nice example

http://ieet.org/index.php/IEET/more/pellissier2011326
Hank: I’ve heard that Denmark’s egalitarianism is reflected in its language and social manners—can you tell me about that?

Joern: We use gender-neutral word like sin, which has no equivalence in English. An example is “Enhver sin mening” which means “Everyone has his-or-hers own opinion.” In formalities we are also a lot more “rude” than American, French, Germans, and even Swedes. We rarely start a sentence with “Please” and we hardly ever use “Sir” or “Ma’am.” Additionally, we never use the often-false expressions like the commonly-used American greeting: “Nice to meet you.”

Danes are also the least gelotophobic nation on earth. Gelotophobic translates as, “fear of being laughed at.” An Aarhus Univerity study revealed that only 1.67% of Danes have this, due, in part, to our high degree of freedom of expression. Interestingly, Denmark has found itself in confrontations with Arab nations in the aftermath of the Muhammad cartoon crisis, and Arabs are at the opposite end of the scale; 33% of them suffer from gelotophobia.

We are also not overly respectful of authority, and political correctness is widely frowned upon. There is little respect for politicians. The general opinion is that any really INTELLIGENT man or women would consider it below themselves to waste their time as parliamentarians. Rather, they would aim for top-posts in the private sector. “Bad manners” are also on the loose in schools, where pupils show little of no respect for teachers. All in all, I would say that Danes are less cowed by status than anyone else I can think of.

Hank: I have heard that Danish wages are near-equal for most occupations. Can you provide some information regarding this?

Joern: It is true, we are the most equal in the world in terms of income. For example, a doctor at a public hospital makes less than $70,000/year (starting wages) and a garbage collector—or, to use the politically-correct term, “Renovation Technician”—also earns $70,000 on average. In Denmark, the income for the 10% richest is only five times higher than the 10% at the other end of the scale, whereas in the USA the difference is 16 times higher.

https://www.theguardian.com/books/2009/mar/13/the-spirit-level
we do better when we are equal

The basic principle of the Danish welfare system, often referred to as the Scandinavian welfare model, is that all citizens have equal rights to social security.
http://denmark.dk/en/society/

Indeed, looking down that OECD list of pre-tax inequality, you see some surprising things. After taxes and transfers, the Netherlands has about the same level of inequality as Germany and somewhat less than France or Italy. But before taxes and transfers, Germany, France and Italy are far more unequal; in fact gross income in Germany and Italy is more unequal than in America. You can't really say "in Europe, they have higher taxes and more transfers, which is why inequality is lower." That's true in parts of Europe. In other parts, inequality is lower because people just tend to earn relatively equal amounts of money.
http://www.economist.com/blogs/democracyinamerica/2011/12/inequality-and-taxes

Oh, and the final and relatively obvious lesson is that if you raise consumption taxes, as many in America are sensibly proposing, you have to compensate by making income-tax rates more progressive. Otherwise you end up with poor people actually paying a higher share of their income in taxes than rich people do.

By bus
The city has an extensive bus network (possibly the most exhaustive in the whole of India), and this is the cheapest, though not always the most comfortable means of transport. Among the buses that ply the city streets, the deluxe buses run by CSTC (Calcutta State Transport Corporation), CTC (Calcutta Tramways Company) and WBSTC (West Bengal Surface Transport Corporation) are probably the better option. There are lot of private buses plying on the streets of Kolkata. Apart from the buses of standard length, there are mini buses also on the streets. Many buses are low floor. The minimum bus fare in non A/C standard length buses is Rs. 6 and that in a mini bus is Rs. 7.

There is a bus stop for the A/C buses in the Kolkata airport premises. A/C buses are available to select destinations namely Santragachi (route V1), Tollygunj (route V2, via Gariahat), Sealdah station, from the airport. Apart from these buses, many private or government buses drop you off a kilometer from the airport at the Airport-Barasat road intersection. You will have to flag a car or taxi for the remaining distance. (The cycle rickshaws at this intersection can only go half way to the airport).

organisation executive committee different formats, Islamic management by Dr Othman

Organizations with a large board of directors (such as international labor unions, large corporations with thousands of stock holders or national and international organizations) may have a smaller body of the board, called an executive committee, handle its business.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Committee

http://www.anc.org.za/show.php?id=4766
South African National congress have national working committe thatis a smaller one like with 19 perosns and have president, secetc.

@so general members confeence usually the highest body. Then an elected consultation body usually coverign representives of different regions, responsible persons from different functions and the no of members of this consultation body may be several hundress but usually should be less than five hundred, in the larger extent less than a thousand.

Then there should be smaller body less than 17 members to run day to day business. Sometimes it is caleld executive committee, sometimes workign committee.

There may be other committes at diffrent namees to accomodate diferent persons.

There may be an apex small committee of decision making consultation , it may be called core committee, super committee, presidium, standing committee, politbureau etc.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congress_Working_Committee
The Congress Working Committee (CWC) is the executive committee of the Indian National Congress. It typically consists of fifteen members elected from the All India Congress Committee. It is headed by the Working President. It has permanent invitees and special invitees.

BJP -The BJP is one of the few parties in India to have a popular-based governing structure, where workers and leaders at the local level have a great say in much of the decision-making. The highest authority in the party is the President. Officially, the BJP constitution provides for a three-year term for the President. Beyond this, there are  several Vice-Presidents, General-Secretaries, Treasurers and Secretaries. The National Executive consists of an undetermined number of senior party leaders from across the nation which is the highest decision-making body in the party. At the state level, a similar structure is in place, with every state unit being led by the respective President, who also officially serves a three-year term.

Shura or consultatoin in Islam
http://www.whyislam.org/social-values-in-islam/social-ties/shura-islamic-approach-to-decision-making/

As illustrated in A History of Muslim Civilization by Abiva and Durkee, Omar “expected his leaders to live up to ethical standards.” The list below shows some of the criteria a leader should have according to Omar.

1.      No nepotism or hereditary succession.

2.      The people should be able to reach the leader easily to voice any of their concerns or suggestions.

3.      The ruler should seek counsel, accept criticism, and be willing to rectify his mistakes.

4.      The army exists to protect the people of the nation, not protect the leader from the people.

Summary of Series of Lectures on Islamic Management by Mr SHAYA’A OTHMAN
http://islamicstrategymanagement.blogspot.com/2011/10/islamic-management-decision-process.html
In line with the guidance from God as mentioned in the verse of Holy Quran above, I would like to include "CONSULTATION" as one of the steps or elements in "DECISION MAKING PROCESS", which is applicable to all managers - Muslims and Non- Muslims alike.

If you are a Muslim manger I would like to encourage you to performance Solat Istikarah [ Prayer for Guidance from God] , after you have made "CONSULTATION" but before decision is made. Then finally "..put TRUST to Allah..." by performing Solat Hajat [Prayer asking God to Bless for decision made]. As a Muslims, these additional 2 steps need to be included in "DECISION MAKING PROCESS", - this makes a different and a beauty of Islam.

Islamic Management and Decision Making Style: Shura or consultation

In line with the guidance from God as mentioned in the verse of Holy Quran above, Mr SHAYA’A OTHMAN writes tthe following:

I would like to include "CONSULTATION" as one of the steps or elements in "DECISION MAKING PROCESS", which is applicable to all managers - Muslims and Non- Muslims alike.

@After consultation, the leader may take the decision following the majority or his own thought that may be of minority support.

committees in an organisation: highest to lowest

There may be an apex small committee of decision making consultation , it may be called core committee, super committee, presidium, standing committee, politbureau etc.

credit rating using mobile usage: innovation by Inventure (TED Fellow Shivani Siroya)

Modern Credit
For a Mobile World

Traditional credit doesn't work in emerging markets; mobile does. Our technologies are unlocking trillions of dollars in purchasing power in the world’s fastest growing economies.

Trust: How do you earn it? Banks use credit scores to determine if you're trustworthy, but there are about 2.5 billion people around the world who don't have one to begin with — and who can't get a loan to start a business, buy a home or otherwise improve their lives. Hear how TED Fellow Shivani Siroya is unlocking untapped purchasing power in the developing world with InVenture, a start-up that uses mobile data to create a financial identity. "With something as simple as a credit score," says Siroya, "we're giving people the power to build their own futures."

Global engineering education series of conference, symposium

Over the past decade or so educators and researchers have made an effort to transform engineering education in light of global trends in the profession. In 1985, the National Research Council issued a study that spotlighted the need for universities to graduate engineers with professional skills.[1] This message was reinforced through a 1994 joint report published by the Engineering Deans Council and ASEE[2] that stated, “Today, engineering colleges … must educate their students to work as part of teams, communicate well, and understand the economic, social, environmental and international context of their professional activities.”

One of the main themes of this series is how to reduce the readiness gap around the world. The special focus is given to Industrial Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering including Engineering Management. Are the engineering graduates ready to take on the challenges of the current global economy?

difference between invertar and non inverter compressors for AC, refrigerators etc

difference between invertar and non inverter
++
http://www.airconditioner.me.uk/Benefits_of_Inverter_Air_Conditioning.html

Inverter compressor never stops, it changes speed so the refrigerant flow according to requirement, so power consumbiton varies differetn times and ultimately save

Non inverter ac compressor runs in fixed speed, so when temperatures reach desired state it stops. Again when tempretaruter goes up it turns on. As long it is on, it uses the same temperature. So it takes up much energy. On start up for motor there is a surge of electricity.

Good article
http://www.bijlibachao.com/air-conditioners/difference-between-a-bee-5-star-rated-and-inverter-technology-air-conditioner.html

http://johnsonheatandair.com/521.htm
This is important because the compressor on your air conditioner consumes more power on start up than any other device in your home. Start up is the hardest time in the life of any type of electrical equipment. Ever notice that light bulbs almost always burn out when you first turn them on and not while they are on? This is due to the huge current that rushes in when a switch is thrown and power is first applied.

An ac compressor may consume 45,000 watts of power while the motor is trying to start - TEN times more power than it uses while running. By comparison, the large burner on an electric stove only consumes approximately 5,000 watts on high. The heat that accompanies the in-rush current can damage vital electrical components - the air conditioner compressor, the air conditioner run capacitor and contacts.

Your air conditioner uses anywhere from 5 to 10 times more power on start-up than it does while running. By reducing that time by up to 50%, there is far less electrical usage each and every time the air conditioner starts. For customers that are on a peak-demand payment program, these savings could be significant.

The second way that the 5-2-1 Compressor Saver® helps to lower air conditioning bills is through the protection it provides to the run capacitor. The run capacitor is the "heart" of the compressor and it determines how much electricity is consumed while the compressor or air conditioner is running. Without a 5-2-1 Compressor Saver® the run capacitor bears the brunt of the stress and electrical heat during start up.

As a result, over time the run capacitor wears down. When the run capacitor wears down, your air conditioner will still work, but it starts to use more electricity to run – just like the last step in a marathon is harder and requires more effort than the first. When weakened, your run capacitor and system can use 10% to 20% more electricity than before!

inverters are basically of DC inverters
http://dailytimes.com.pk/business/10-May-16/acs-with-new-technology-cutting-power-consumption
The inverter ACs saves more energy and are more economical while still being environment friendly. A conventional AC starts multiple times and always runs at peak capacity. This means that every time it starts and it needs extra electricity to jump start its stationary motors and compressor like torque current. Without being too technical, one can think of it this way, it needs more power when it starts and it starts too many times. It also runs at full capacity each time requiring a lot of current.

In comparison, a DC inverter AC never turns off its compressor or motors. It reduces the electricity it needs and constantly keeps cooling or heating the room. When it does start the first time, a DC inverter AC starts off slowly so it doesn't require a massive torque current. The inverter ACs can start at low voltages as well thanks to the inversion mechanism. By running in a low power consumption state, the DC inverter ACs save electricity.

The inverter technology is not new and other countries have had these products for years. In most countries, the normal ACs are phased out completely. The DC inverter technology will soon start being used in other products as well.

dehumidifier definition and working principle

Dehumidification only
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_conditioning
Clearnly answer the difference. If dehumidifier is placed like ac, but I think for small dehumidifere unit temp increase will be negligible compared to comfort with decreaased humidity.
Main article: Dehumidifier

Typical portable dehumidifier
A specialized air conditioner that is used only for dehumidifying is called a dehumidifier. It also uses a refrigeration cycle, but differs from a standard air conditioner in that both the evaporator and the condenser are placed in the same air path. A standard air conditioner transfers heat energy out of the room because its condenser coil releases heat outside. However, since all components of the dehumidifier are in the same room, no heat energy is removed. Instead, the electric power consumed by the dehumidifier remains in the room as heat, so the room is actually heated, just as by an electric heater that draws the same amount of power.

In addition, if water is condensed in the room, the amount of heat previously needed to evaporate that water also is re-released in the room (the latent heat of vaporization). The dehumidification process is the inverse of adding water to the room with an evaporative cooler, and instead releases heat. Therefore, an in-room dehumidifier always will warm the room and reduce the relative humidity indirectly, as well as reducing the humidity directly by condensing and removing water.

Inside the unit, the air passes over the evaporator coil first, and is cooled and dehumidified. The now dehumidified, cold air then passes over the condenser coil where it is warmed up again. Then the air is released back into the room. The unit produces warm, dehumidified air and can usually be placed freely in the environment (room) that is to be conditioned.

Dehumidifiers are commonly used in cold, damp climates to prevent mold growth indoors, especially in basements. They are also used to protect sensitive equipment from the adverse effects of excessive humidity in tropical countries.

spending much less than you earn is the way to get rich

What happens when you can save more of your income? As it turns out, spending much less than you earn is the way to get rich. The ONLY way. And the effects are surprising: if you can save 50% of your take-home pay starting at age 20, you’ll be wealthy enough to retire by age 37. If you already have some assets now, you’re even closer than that. If you can save 75%, your working career is only 7 years.
http://www.mrmoneymustache.com/2013/02/22/getting-rich-from-zero-to-hero-in-one-blog-post/

Is that all too fluffy and philosophical? OK, fine. Here’s how to cut your life costs in half. Start by getting rid of your Debt Emergency if you have one. Live close to work. Move to another city if you enjoy adventure. Don’t borrow money for cars, and don’t buy stupid ones. Ride a bike wherever you can. Cancel your TV service. Stop wasting money on groceries. Give your kids the opportunity to achieve greatness without being pampered. Lose the overpriced cell phones. Learn to appreciate the life-boosting joy of using your own body to get things done. Learn to mock convenience. Practice optimism.

That should do it – about half of your expenses, gone in one paragraph. Keep going, as many readers do, and you can save closer to 75% of what you make – especially for those with above average incomes.

Visa on Arrival in Bangladesh: just takes 5 minutes surprisingly fast

http://www.lonelyplanet.com/bangladesh/visas

If you are coming from USA, Canada, Australia or Europe and just want an ordinary one-month, single-entry tourist visa, you may get them on arrival at the airport (although not at land borders).

You’ll see a visa payment counter just before you reach the immigration desks. You can only get a one-month visa on arrival, and you have to pay for one full month even if you plan to stay for less time. It costs the same as a one-month visa would have cost you at the Bangladesh embassy in your home country. You can pay in any major currency, or in taka, but you get the best rate if you pay in American dollars.

The whole process takes five minutes. There’s no need for any photos, photocopies or application forms. You just need your passport and some cash.

The vision of the government, through the Ministry of Higher Education, is that all public universities need to generate their own income, or at least 30% of their operating expenses by the year 2020.

In 1980, UPM started the development of a strategic business unit under the purview of the Vice Chancellor’s office. The unit was called the Consultancy Unit (Unit Perundingan). It was started as a small unit to promote the expertise in the university that could be utilized by government agencies and industries. As time went by, business activities rapidly increased in the unit. Because of the growth of this unit the university decided to upgrade it. The unit was upgraded to the University Business Centre (UBC) in 1996. The UBC was not only doing a consultancy business but was expanded to create more businesses that related to the core business of the university. They opened up the education and training unit, the commercialization unit and the service unit. The UBC was transformed to UPMHoldings in 2004.

UPMHoldings is a wholly-owned company by Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). The company has established three subsidiaries to fully utilize research and technological expertise as well as to promote lifelong learning. The three UPMHoldings subsidiary companies are UPM Consultancy and Services Sdn. Bhd., UPM Education and Training Sdn. Bhd. and UPM Innovations Sdn. Bhd. The company’s performance has been enhanced by the incorporation of two more subsidiaries under UPM Consultation and Services, namely, UPM International Sdn. Bhd. and UPM Health Sdn. Bhd.

In summary, UPMHoldings has the expertise, experience and technical know-how to offer with. Our client is our business. We are looking forward to serving our clients at any times..

Using thing one third time, highest two third time then sell or donate

Usually warranty time may be considered as the one third time. So after that you may sell so that other with less purchasing capacity can buy it and get the feelings of how it looks like. For example, mobile phone warranty is for one year, so after one year you may sell it or donate. Highest you could use it for 2 years.

Wage to be given to employees when starting new venture

Living wage for the bottom ones atleast. If not possible, start with two third of the living wage for the bottom with keeping provisions to top up to living wage when profit gets in. At the least, start with half making sure the salary is atleast 50% higher than the competitior now or later stage. 50% is chosen as less than that would not get noticed, so may not give that impact.
